Celebrating the Care and Support Occupational Therapists Provide

We are currently in Occupational Therapy Week (4th-10th November), this event is dedicated to giving recognition and acknowledgement for the work that occupational therapists do on a consistent basis to ensure that patients have the best treatment and quality of care possible. Occupational therapy is a crucial aspect of people’s lives when it comes to performing everyday activity, staying safe and maintaining as comfortable and stress-free experience as possible; without occupational therapists, the quality of life for a significant number of people with complex conditions would go down dramatically.

Centrobed provide a number of products that can help maintain and even improve the standard of care occupational therapy that people provide and make the lives of the occupational therapists themselves better and easier as well.

For clients who are heavily dependent on occupational therapists to remain mobile throughout day and night, the Timor chair bed can provide a solution for both patient and occupational therapist. The multifunctional Timor is bespoke to client’s measurements and complex needs meaning it can work as an effective chair, bed and hoist, allowing transitions between lying down, to sitting up to finally standing up smoothly and comfortably as possible. The Timor will promote and help improve a client’s active independence and reduce the risk of injury for occupational therapists and carers by eliminating the need for manual handling.

The Arctic can help care and treat a range of conditions including Muscular Dystrophy, Cerebral Palsy, Motor Neurone Disease and others. This turning and profiling bed is bespoke to client’s own physical measurements and needs ensuring for the best care possible. For an occupational therapist, there is a reduced need for manual handling, the Arctic can reposition the client for them through the use of the simple handsets, allowing the patient or the occupational therapist themselves to reposition the patient with a few button presses. Finally, the Arctic can have automated turning installed allowing for overnight care without any extra assistance needed, this allows the client to be gradually turned in a specific way catered to their condition and at particular time intervals best suited to them, improving the lives of both the client and carer.

The Nile leg lifter can help simplify an issue that can cause serious trouble and distress for both patient and occupational therapist: getting in and out of bed. For patients who have trouble with using their legs or other parts of their body, trying to get into bed can be an irritating, painful experience that is made less dignified by needing assistance of others. For the occupational therapist, they put their own bodies at risk of strain or injury by needing to consistently help and manually handle patients to ensure they are safely in or out of bed. The Nile resolves all of these issues by smoothly lifting a patient’s legs into or out of bed silently and at the touch of the button, without any manual handling needed, improving patient comfort and independence and making it easier for occupational therapists to provide effective care.
